Cut Piece (Make Piece) (2016)
Performance by Morrison Gong
Documentation by Shining Zhu
HD video, silent, color
Reenacting and remaking Yoko Ono’s “Cut Piece” (1965) by cutting the performer’s clothes first and painting it back. The first part locates the fidelity of Yoko Ono’s work and the latter part “make piece” is a piece of my own performance art inspired by Ono’s original work.
The documentation of this performance aims to stress my own experience rather than that of participants, express my isolation, fear and anxiety about uncertainties of interactions, and the transcendental experiences I derived from all.
